Species Interaction
Black spider monkeys coexist with Parrots, Toucans, other monkeys and other primary consumers and herbivores. There are several interactions with each of the species that may somewhat influence the population size and growth of the spider monkeys.
Competition Interactions –The black spider monkey competes with several other species like Parrots, Toucans, other monkeys and other primary consumers and herbivores for the same resources but is still able to coexist with these numerous organisms. Although the presence of competition does exist, it is not as detrimental to affect the fitness of the population. Predation Interactions- Black spider monkeys are also preyed by several other species in the biome. They are known to be consumed by pumas, snakes, jaguars and even eagles. This can be one of the few factors that affect the population size of spider monkeys. Mutualism Interactions- The spider monkeys consume the fruits or nuts of trees, and then dispel the seeds, allowing for new trees to thrive as a result benefiting much of the forest environment. |
